Panes and tabs
Split the screen into panes, zoom one, move the divider, rename a pane, and keep separate shells in separate tabs.
Every command on this page starts with the prefix, Ctrl-b. So "%" below
means Ctrl-b, then %.
Split a pane
% splits the focused pane side by side. " splits it top and bottom. The new
pane gets its own shell.
The app's split keys, Ctrl+Shift+O, Ctrl+Shift+E and Ctrl+Shift+H, don't
split here. Terminals like kitty and Ghostty keep those keys for themselves, so
use the prefix keys.
Move between panes with the prefix and an arrow key. o goes to the next pane,
; back to the one you were just in, and x closes the focused pane.
Zoom and resize
z zooms the focused pane to fill the screen. Press it again and the layout
comes back exactly as it was.
r enters resize mode. The arrow keys then move the divider next to the focused
pane, and Esc leaves resize mode.
Rename a pane
, asks for a new name for the focused pane. Type it and press Enter. The shell
inside keeps running while you do.
. moves the focused pane to another spot in the layout.
Tabs
A tab is a whole separate layout of panes. c makes a new tab, n and p go
to the next and previous one, and 1 to 9 jump straight to a tab by number.
w lists them all.
With two or more tabs open, each has a mark in the top row beside Menu. Click a mark to switch to that tab. For a new one, open Menu, then More actions, then New workspace.
Panels
Some tools open as a panel that floats over your panes instead of taking a pane
of its own. a toggles the agent panel this way. Your split underneath is left
alone.
To move a panel, type :panel move agents after the prefix, then use the arrow
keys. Esc puts it down.
Work from the terminal
Work in taiku from inside the terminal you already have open. Panes, tabs, previews and agents, drawn in text, driven from the keyboard or the mouse.
Commands and keys
Find any command in the palette, look up a key, copy text out of a pane, and read the mode tag on the status row.
